Letter to Members of the Media
Thank you for your interest in HealthReach Community Health Centers. As a non-profit organization consisting of eleven federally qualified health centers (FQHCs), HealthReach has served as a safety net vital to the health of Central and Western Maine residents for 40 years. Located in rural communities where care is needed but scarce, our health centers improve access by providing quality, affordable healthcare, close to home — regardless of insurance status or ability to pay.
Federally Qualified Health Centers are unique in today’s health care environment in a number of ways and play an important role in the public health system. Since their inception in the early 1960s during the "War on Poverty," FQHCs have increased access to healthcare, achieved quality health outcomes at low cost, and provided preventive care that saves lives and dollars. Through funding from the U.S. Bureau of Primary Health Care, we offer an Affordable Care Program to patients based on income and family size. The majority of our governing Board members are health center patients, which keeps the Board in touch with local needs. We also benefit from the active involvement of members of our individual health center Community Boards, who volunteer their time and energy to help the health center in their area thrive. Community health centers play a critical role as a primary care safety net for the medically underserved, especially those with financial or geographic barriers to care.
On our website you will find our Fast Facts, Annual Report, Directory of Services, recent issues of our newsletter and additional information to further acquaint you with our organization.
